Dr. Sadiqa Stelzner is a leader in comprehensive eye care and innovative eye surgical techniques. Dr. Stelzner’s vast medical training and experience as well as her compassion for her patients have made her one of the top ophthalmologists in the country. As chief physician at the Santa Monica Eye Group, Dr. Stelzner specializes in comprehensive eye care, including cataract, laser and eyelid surgeries.

In addition to serving her patients in private practice, Dr. Stelzner is Chief of Ophthalmology at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital. She is Director of Eye Care at the Greater Los Angeles Veteran’s Hospital. As Assistant Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine/Jules Stein Eye Institute, Dr. Stelzner attends the UCLA ophthalmology residents. In addition to her work at UCLA, she is also the benefactor of several UCLA undergraduate and graduate scholarships. She is a staff surgeon at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, Santa Monica Surgery Center, and Laser Eye Associates in Beverly Hills.

She is a sought-after speaker at national ophthalmology conventions and around the world, including a recent trip to speak at several hospitals in Japan. Twice every year she is one of the teaching faculty for the cataract surgery courses for ophthalmology residents from UCLA, USC, UCI, UCSD and Loma Linda.

A very important part of Dr. Stelzner’s work is giving back to the community, both locally and globally. She is a regular volunteer at local high schools, providing eye care to students and their families. She recently traveled as part of a humanitarian team to Mexico and El Salvador, where she performed sight-restoring surgeries and taught local eye physicians her safe and innovative eye surgery techniques. She has also traveled to Japan to share her world-renowned surgical techniques.

Dr. Stelzner earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry, and graduate degree in cellular and molecular biology at UCLA. She received her medical doctorate from Boston University. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she went on to work with Dr. David McIntyre at an internationally known private practice. In addition, Dr. Stelzner completed executive management training at the Yale School of Management.

Dr. Stelzner lives on the Westside with her two children.

I have been fortunate enough to have this personable, caring, and even more important, Dr. Sadiqa Stelzner as my ophthalmologist because she is so knowledgeable. She has followed me through the years with my glaucoma problem, giving me all sorts of tests to keep it in check. She gives me much concern and attention to my eye problem. Always, I feel in safe hands with her.

Recently Dr. Stelzner performed cataract surgery on my 84 year old mother. She did an excellent job. My mother’s eyesight has returned to normal. My mother is thrilled about how successful the surgery results are. We found Dr. Stelzner to be very caring and attentive before, during, and after the surgery. Dr. Stelzner has a wonderful personality. She is truly a professional in her field. Her staff is wonderful to work with. The Surgery Center of The Pacific was where the surgery was performed. It is an excellent facility with the most advanced laser technology. My mother experienced no discomfort. This surgery center has a wonderful staff who we found to be very caring and attentive as well, staying by my mother every step of the way. Truly, truly remarkable service!

Dr. Stelzner and her Staff were exceptional. I chose Dr. Stelzner because she was in-network for my insurance. I had a compilation with a second cataract and needed a simple YAG laser procedure to clear it up. I called several Dr’s offices and from start to finish Dr. Stelzner’s office staff was the most accommodating and efficient. Excellent and warm service from start to finish. My vision has been restored and I am very appreciative! Thank you!

Dr. Stelzner is a caring professional. I had cataracts in both eyes and had much anxiety about having surgery. Dr. Stelzner always has time to discuss your procedure thoroughly with you to make you feel comfortable with your decision. I had my surgeries within two weeks of each other and I am so happy I did. If you’re looking for a kind, caring, and great surgeon choose Dr. Stelzner!

My mother was a ob/gyn nurse who developed cataracts in the 1960s, apparently as a result of being forcibly hit by a patient in extreme pain. After her first cataract removals she was able to see, with the aid of thick green contacts that were difficult for her to put in and especially take out of her eyes. At night, without contacts, she was blind. About 2001 she fell into a bathtub at night, while in an unfamiliar home, while trying to get to the toilet. That is when she went to Dr. Stelzner. I remember her joy at being to see after the surgery; a miracle in her life. My sister, who accompanied her, was impressed at Dr. Stelzner’s compassion and carefulness, and sincere efforts to restore her sight. At 90 now,  she has since developed Parkinson’s disease, and would be completely unable to manage contacts. But her vision remains good enough for her to read letters from her friends and conduct a full life. She remembers the surgery  as a landmark event, and she is so grateful. And so are we, her family.

For my sequence of cataract surgery on both eyes Dr Stelzner rates top billing. She is very professional, listens carefully, answered questions clearly and completely. The result was vastly improved vision. I always felt that I was an individual, not just another file. And she was always familiar with MY file.
She is clearly highly qualified. Both in the office and at the surgery center she is one hundred percent in control of the situation but always available to make her patient comfortable with what’s going on.
